Sheryl Cohen: Music

Authentic Life

(Sheryl Cohen)

A conversation between my conscience and myself.
I am confessing secrets and seeking advice.

She is telling me to trust myself, because
at some level, I already know the answers to my questions.

An Authentic Life

 Verse 1

Standing at the crossroads staring into mother time,

Naked I appear before you to confess my crime.

Sit right down and tell me darling, what is on your mind?

What lies behind emerald eyes?

Verse 2

In my heart I’ve longed for someone

Who cannot be mine.

I have left a man for something I cannot define.

You my dear hide truth and meaning in metaphors but I,

See what’s behind emerald eyes. I see . . .

Chorus

You are fighting what’s inside.

You’re scared to spread your wings and fly.

You will fail sometimes but you will survive.

You’ve got to trust your instincts and realize

They’ll guide you through the toughest times.

Those who thrive they live An Authentic Life.

Verse 3

Tripping ‘round my words have failed me,

Can someone hear me cry?

I’m floating in a guilt suspended

Desperate for a sign.

You my dear have all the answers,

Just take a look inside.

Truth lies behind emerald eyes.

Chorus

Repeat

Bridge

When something is wrong,

When something’s going wrong around you,

You must be strong.

Face your fears to fly.
